Prithvi Shaw returns, Shreyas Iyer to lead as Mumbai announce squad for SMAT 2024-25
Winners of the 2022/23 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Mumbai announced their squad on Sunday, November 17. Prithvi Shaw makes a return to the side while IPL-winning captain Shreyas Iyer has been handed the responsibility to lead the side.
Prithvi Shaw returns to the Mumbai set-up after being left out of the squad for the Ranji Trophy owing to fitness and discipline issues. The squad also features Ajinkya Rahane, who will be playing as a pure batter.
Shreyas Iyer has been handed the reins to captain Mumbai. The 29-year-old has been in hot form, scoring 452 runs across five games in the Ranji Trophy. Iyer has been the vice-captain for Mumbai in the past and this will be the first time he will be leading the domestic giants.

The squad also sees the exclusions of big names such as Shivam Dube and Tushar Deshpande, both of whom have not been selected owing to their respective injuries. Suryakumar Yadav, Team India's T20I skipper, has also not been called up for the tournament.
Mumbai are placed in Group E alongside Goa, Maharashtra, Kerala, Nagaland, Services, and Andhra Pradesh. They kickstart their campaign against Goa on November 23, with their last game scheduled for Thursday, December 5.
Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 to commence from November 23
The 2024/25 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy commences on Saturday, November 23. The group stages across all groups end on Thursday, December 5. Andhra Pradesh and Hyderabad will host the group-stage games of all the 38 teams in the tournament.
Thereafter, 10 teams will contest in the knockouts that begin with the pre-quarterfinals on Monday, December 9. The quarterfinals will be played on Wednesday, December 11, with the semi-finals and the finals scheduled for December 13 and December 15, respectively.
The knockouts will be played in Bengaluru, with M. Chinnaswamy Stadium hosting the summit clash.
