"Probably going to get more than 40 Test hundreds" - Glenn Maxwell hails Yashasvi Jaiswal after 1st BGT 2024-25 Test heroics

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell praised young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, predicting that he will score over 40 Test centuries after his heroics in the opening Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test at Perth. After a duck in his first Test innings Down Under, Jaiswal responded with a breathtaking 161 in the second innings to help India pull off a massive 295-run win.

The 22-year-old has had a sensational start to his Test career. He averages over 58, with four centuries and eight fifties in only 15 outings.

Speaking about Jaiswal on The Grade Cricketer podcast, Maxwell said:

"Jaiswal doesn't seem to have many weaknesses, plays a short ball well, drives well, plays spin unbelievably well and can absorb pressure for periods of time. He's a guy that's probably going to get more than 40 Test hundreds and re-write some different records as well."

Jaiswal shared a 201-run opening stand with KL Rahul in the second innings - India's first-ever double-century opening partnership in a Test in Australia. The youngster has displayed his hunger for big centuries early in his career, with all four centuries being converted to 150+ scores and two resulting in double tons.

Glenn Maxwell also reserved special praise for Jasprit Bumrah, stating that the ace pacer could become the greatest fast bowler in history.

The 30-year-old starred with the ball for India in the Perth Test win, picking up eight wickets across the two innings. Bumrah also led the side in Rohit Sharma's absence and was named the Player of the Match for his incredible bowling display.

"Bumrah is going to go down as potentially the best fast bowler of all time, maybe not with the amount of wickets he takes in every format. But for the guys that have played against him, it is just so difficult, so difficult. He's just got such unique action, unique ability with the ball. He seems like a complete package," said Maxwell.

He continued:

"It almost feels like his bouncer and his length ball are very similar to where his release point is, and it's really hard to pick up the difference between those. The ball always feels like it's coming back into you and he's got the ability to take the ball away, which just makes it extremely difficult."

Bumrah boasts the second-best Test bowling average in history (20.06) among bowlers with at least 150 wickets, behind only Sydney Barnes of England. He has an incredible 11 five-wicket hauls in 43 Tests, with a strike rate under 44.
