The southpaw played aggressively, applying pressure on the bowlers with his powerful shots. He was let off twice by New Zealand fielders. Pant reached his fifty off just 36 balls, setting the record for the fastest half-century by an Indian against New Zealand in Tests. The 27-year-old ended with 60 runs off 59 balls, including eight boundaries and two sixes.

India found themselves in a difficult position at the end of Day 1, struggling at 86 for four. However, Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill excelled in the morning session of Day 2, adding 94 runs off 111 balls and shifting the momentum in India’s favor.

Pant scored 60 runs off 59 balls, while Gill also reached his half-century. By lunch on Day 2, the hosts were at 195 for five, trailing by 40 runs, with Gill on 70 and Ravindra Jadeja on 10.

Earlier, New Zealand were bowled out for 235, with Jadeja taking five wickets for India.
