Yashasvi Jaiswal starred with the bat again in the second Test between India and Bangladesh at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on Day 5 (Tuesday, October 1). The left-handed batter scored 51 runs off 45 balls, a knock laced with one six and eight boundaries. This was his second consecutive half-century in the ongoing Test, including 72 off 51 deliveries in the first innings. His exploits helped the hosts win the match by seven wickets to complete a 2-0 clean sweep over the visitors.

Jaiswal finished as the leading run-scorer in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, scoring 180 runs in four innings at an average of 60, comprising three fifties. The Mumbai batter returned with scores of 56 and 10 in the first Test, which the Men in Blue won by 280 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the Test series.

Yashasvi Jaiswal closes in on Joe Root for most runs in WTC 2023-25 cycle

With 180 runs in the Test series against Bangladesh, Yashasvi Jaiswal closed the gap with former England captain Joe Root for most runs in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

The 22-year-old currently has 1217 runs in 11 Tests at an average of 64.05 with the help of seven hundreds and three fifties. Root is at the top of the list, with 1398 runs in 16 Tests at an average of 53.76, comprising six tons and five half-centuries. Ben Duckett is placed third on the list with 1028 runs in 16 Tests.

Jaiswal would now be keen to continue his purple patch against New Zealand in the upcoming three-match Test series in October. He is also critical for Team India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia later this year.
