Rajasthan Royals to refund Guwahati fans for washed-out IPL 2024 match vs KKR

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Monday announced a refund process for those who bought tickets for their IPL 2024 clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Guwahati on Sunday. The last league game was abandoned without a ball due to rain.

RR hosted their initial games at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, their usual home venue but, just like IPL 2023, kept the final two games for the Baraspara Stadium in Guwahati. The first, against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), wasn't interrupted by rain, though RR lost. The second, however, looked set for a seven-over shortened contest late in the night before the downpour started again.

In an announcement on social media, RR asked to keep their physical tickets intact and promised a refund of the ticket's face value via the platform, BookMyShow.

"Unfortunate evening but thank you for your patience, #RoyalsFamily. 💗," they wrote in the caption.

Rain washing out the match cut off RR's chances of finishing in the top two and playing the Qualifier 1 instead of the Eliminator. It meant that, after leading the table for most of the first half of the season, RR's winless streak soared to five, thanks to their four consecutive losses, all in May.

"RR are missing their key jigsaw piece" - Michael Vaughan

RR will now play the Eliminator in Ahmedabad against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who are coming off a contrasting six-match winning streak to overturn their initial blues and narrowly reach the top four.

Recently, former English captain Michael Vaughan said Faf du Plessis' men would have a better chance in the knock-out game because RR no longer have the services of Jos Buttler. The opener, who scored two centuries in the season against KKR and RCB, left for national duty last week.

"RCB have got more players in form. Jos Buttler is such a big player for them. Watch his hundred against KKR, he knows how to get the job done under pressure. They are missing their key jigsaw piece," Vaughan told Cricbuzz.
