Rampant India notch up 2nd highest total in T20I history, smash 297/6 in 3rd IND vs BAN 2024 T20I
Team India notched up the second-highest total in the history of T20 Internationals in their third T20I against Bangladesh. They did so when batting first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on October 12.
Winning the toss and batting first, Team India were jolted early, losing Abhishek Sharma (4 off 4) cheaply. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav joined Sanju Samson in the middle and the duo carried out an all-out assault on the Bangladeshi bowlers.
The duo put on a partnership worth 173 runs for the second with Samson (111 off 47) scoring his maiden T20I ton and the second-fastest for an Indian. Suryakumar Yadav (75 off 35) also recorded his 21st half-century in the format with his brisk knock in the middle.
Bangladesh managed to dismiss the two batters but Hardik Pandya (47 off 18) and Riyan Parag (34 off 13) were on a leather hunt, with the duo adding 70 runs for the fourth wicket. India lost wickets towards the end, but birthday boy Rinku Singh capped the innings off with a maximum, helping India score 297/6 at the end of their 20 overs.
India's total of 297/6 ranks second among the highest totals in the format, with Nepal being on top of the list. Playing against Mongolia at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, Nepal scored 314/3 in 20 overs.
Among full member nations, India's total ranks the highest, followed by Afghanistan, who scored 278/3 back in 2019.
