Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Cheteshwar Pujara slams double ton for Saurashtra; Mumbai hammer Maharashtra by 9 wickets

Cheteshwar Pujara notched up his 18th first-class double century in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match against Chhatisgarh at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on Day 4 of the Group D match on Monday, October 21.

With his latest knock, Pujara moved up to fourth place on the list of batters with the most first-class double hundreds. Don Bradman (38), Wally Hammond (36), and Patsy Hendren (18) are above the Indian batter on the elite list.

Pujara's marathon innings ended on 234 off 383 balls and featured 25 fours and a six. He was the eighth wicket to fall in the innings at 472. Earlier, Chhattisgarh posted 578-7 declared batting first as skipper Amandeep Khare hit an unbeaten 203 and Sanjeet Desai 146. The game ended in a high-scoring draw.

In a Group A match of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, Mumbai completed the formalities against Maharashtra, registering a nine-wicket win at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in BKC, Mumbai. Set a target of 74, Mumbai cruised to victory courtesy of Prithvi Shaw (39*) and Hardik Tamore (21*). 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre was named Player of the Match for his knock of 176 in the first innings.


Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Gujarat register a thrilling 1-wicket win over Andhra

In a Group B match of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, Gujarat beat Andhra by one wicket in a thrilling finish at the Narendra Modi Stadium B Ground in Ahmedabad. Set to chase a target of 144, Gujarat sneaked home despite crumbling to 59-6. Skipper Chintan Gaja contributed 30, while Arzan Nagwaswalla hit 16*.

Meanwhile, Baroda got the better of Delhi by 65 runs at the Palam A Ground, Model Sports Complex in Delhi. Services were set to chase a tough target of 341 and ended on 275 despite Arjun Sharma's unbeaten 79. For Baroda, Mahesh Pithiya claimed 6-108 to go with his 3-67 in the first innings.

Among other results, Chandigarh beat Assam by nine wickets in Guwahati, Rajasthan got the better of Himachal Pradesh by eight wickets in Dharamsala, Uttarakhand defeated Hyderabad by 78 runs in Dehradun, while Vidarbha beat Puducherry by 120 runs in Puducherry. Also, Delhi (266 & 193-8 f/o) hung on for a draw against Tamil Nadu (674-6 declared).
