Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Shreyas Iyer slams 152*; all-rounder Jalaj Saxena creates history
Shreyas Iyer smashed an unbeaten 152 off 164 balls as Mumbai reached a healthy 385-3 at stumps on Day 1 of their Ranji Trophy 2024-25 Group A match against Odisha at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC in Mumbai on Wednesday, November 6. The right-handed batter slammed 18 fours and four sixes in his knock after Odisha won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Shreyas missed Mumbai's previous match against Tripura but had slammed 142 in the game against Maharashtra. On Day 1 of the contest against Odisha, he added an unbroken 231 runs for the fourth wicket with Siddhesh Lad (116*). Earlier, opener Angkrish Raghuvanshi contributed 92 even as skipper Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed for a golden duck.
In a Group C match at the St Xavier's College Ground in Thumba, Thiruvananthapuram, veteran Kerala all-rounder Jalaj Saxena created history against Uttar Pradesh, becoming the first cricketer to achieve the double of 6,000 runs and 400 wickets in the Ranji Trophy.
The 37-year-old registered figures of 5-56 in 17 overs. Kerala bowled out UP for 162 and were 82-2 at stumps.
Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Anustup Majumdar, Venkatesh Iyer also hit tons
Bengal skipper Anustup Majumdar scored 101 off 164 balls in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match against Karnataka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. At stumps on Day 1, Bengal were 249-5 after being asked to bat first. Opener Sudip Chatterjee contributed 55, while Shahbaz Ahmed was unbeaten on 54.
In Patna, Madhya Pradesh were 381-4 against Bihar at stumps on Day 1. MP won the toss and opted to bat first. Shubham Sharma (134*) and Venkatesh Iyer (118*) slammed unbeaten hundreds, adding an unbroken stand of 234 for the fifth wicket.
In a Ranji Trophy 2024-25 clash in Guwahati, Tamil Nadu were 299-7 at stumps on Day 1 against Assam. Andre Siddarth C top-scored for Tamil Nadu with 94, while Vijay Shankar scored 76 after Assam won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Jassinder Singh claimed 4-33 as Punjab bowled out Haryana for 114 in Rohtak. Haryana, however, made a strong comeback with the ball to reduce Punjab to 90-5 by stumps on Day 1.
Yash Dhull's 121 lifted Delhi to 276 against Chandigarh even as Nishunk Birla claimed six wickets for the bowling side. In response, Chandigarh were 63-1 at stumps after 16 overs.
