Ranking the 5 best overseas all-rounders in IPL 2025 auction ft. Marco JansenĀ
The Indian Premier League (IPL) mega-auction is not far away, and the franchises will be busy assessing the permutations and combinations, along with strategies and mock auctions. One of the priorities for the think tanks would be to cover all areas and bring balance to the side.
A way to achieve those goals is by managing to procure some quality and reliable all-rounders. While there are Indian all-rounders available in the market, the mega auction proves to be an avenue where plenty of overseas options are available as well. With franchises having plenty of spots remaining in their respective squads after the retentions and a heavy purse to back it, they can go hard for some players who are not usually on the market.
The 2025 IPL mega-auction is scheduled to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah.
On that note, let us take a look at the five best overseas all-rounders available in the IPL 2025 auction pool.
#5 Liam Livingstone
The England all-rounder has shown what he is capable of in glimpses during his stint with the Punjab Kings (PBKS). A player who is quite difficult to stop in full flow, and coming into the auction with honed versatile bowling ability and leadership skills, will be on the wishlist for several franchises.
Livingstone is someone very difficult to stop when in full flow. He showcased his hitting abilities recently in the bilateral series against Australia and the West Indies. While his inconsistency does not make his case, his ability to bowl both leg spin and off spin, coupled with his recent form makes him one of the premier all-rounders to be available at the auction.
#4 Rachin Ravindra
One of the heroes behind New Zealand's recent Test series win in India, Rachin Ravindra was a bargain signing in the previous auction. There is a very slim chance that something similar will transpire this time around too.
Although he did not set the league on fire in his maiden edition, there was significant promise in the aggressive manner with which he played. Additionally, his bowling abilities have arguably been underutilized across all levels, making him a signing full of untapped potential.
Ravindra's versatility, his age, and skill set aligning with the modern-day T20 approach, all make him a lucrative signing.
#3 Marco Jansen
Former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn remarked that Marco Jansen is bound to fetch a high price at the auction. The Proteas all-rounder does come into the auction as one of the most sought-after names in his department.
Jansen's ability to move the new ball, and contribute with runs down the order, made him an instant hit with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). His stocks have only risen after a prolific 2024 T20 World Cup campaign and a solid home series against India recently.
#2 Sam Curran
Once the most expensive acquisition in IPL history, Sam Curran heads into the auction after a three-year gap. His white-ball career has seen its ups and downs in recent times, but he continues to be a top name in the all-rounder department because of the traits he brings to the table.
Capable of bowling at the start of the innings and in the death overs, Curran has his set of variations which he is known to use cleverly.
The biggest change from his previous auction appearance to the upcoming one is his batting ability. He showcased what he can do with the bat when he promoted himself up the order while leading PBKS.
The left-handed batter has continued to work on his batting, and proved that he is more than just a pinch hitter or a floater, with his exploits for Surrey and England over the last couple of months.
#1 Marcus Stoinis
The Australian all-rounder gave the perfect reminder to IPL franchises with a splendid fifty in the third T20I against Pakistan in Hobart. A promising 2024 IPL campaign, and continued contributions for Australia with both bat and ball, makes Stoinis an irresistible option for franchises at the auction.
Stoinis brings the ideal combination of skill, impact, and experience to the table. The all-rounder was one of the pre-auction picks the last time the mega auction unfurled, which means that he will go under the hammer for the first time since 2019.
