RCB released players 2023: Full list of players released by Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of IPL Auction
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have released five players from their squad ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 mini-auction in Kochi on December 23.
The released players are Jason Behrendorff, Aneeshwar Gautam, Chama Milind, Luvnith Sisodia and Sherfane Rutherford. Among them, Australia left-arm pacer Behrendorff was traded to the Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of the retention deadline. The BCCI had set November 15, 5 PM as the deadline for all franchises to submit their list of retained and released players.
Bangalore have retained the majority of their squad, including South African batter and RCB franchise skipper Faf du Plessis. RCB have also retained star players Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dinesh Karthik, Mohammad Siraj, Harshal Patel, Shahbaz Ahmed and Rajat Patidar among others.
Following retention and releases, Bangalore have a purse of ₹8.75 crore and two overseas slots to fill up.
Despite putting together strong teams on paper, RCB are yet to lift the IPL title. They have been finalists thrice - 2009, 2011 and 2016. They have been consistent over the last three seasons, reaching the playoffs. However, they are yet to go all the way.
In IPL 2022, skipper Du Plessis was their leading run-getter with 468 runs in 16 matches at an average of 31.20 and a strike rate of 127.52. Kohli had a poor season and compiled 341 runs at a below-par strike rate of 115.98.
With the ball, leg-spinner Hasaranga claimed 26 wickets in 16 games, while Hazlewood claimed 20 and Harshal Patel 19.
