Record Alert: KKR vs PBKS IPL 2024 clash witnesses most sixes in a T20 match

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Eden Gardens witnessed the most sixes hit in T20s on Friday, April 26.

For the unversed, the Knight Riders hit 18 sixes in the first innings as they put up 261 in 20 overs. In reply, Punjab smashed 24 sixes as they chased down the target with eight balls to spare. Overall, 42 maximums were smashed in the high-scoring game. Jonny Bairstow, who smashed a century, finished with the most sixes (nine) in the game.

The previous record for most sixes (38) in a match was held jointly. It came in Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Mumbai Indians (in Hyderabad) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs SRH (in Bengaluru) in the ongoing IPL season.


PBKS pull off highest T20 chase in 8-wicket win over KKR in IPL 2024 match

A clinical batting display from Jonny Bairstow, Shashank Singh, and Prabhsimran Singh helped PBKS beat KKR by pulling off the highest chase in T20 and IPL history.

Chasing 262, Bairstow scored an unbeaten 108 runs off 48 balls at a strike rate of 225 in an innings laced with nine sixes and eight boundaries. The right-hander shared a 93-run opening partnership with Prabhsimran Singh, who smashed 54 off 20 deliveries, including five sixes and four boundaries.

Shashank stayed unbeaten on 68 off 28 with the help of eight sixes and two boundaries. Rilee Rossouw also came up with a valuable contribution, scoring 26 off 16.

Sunil Narine scalped the only wicket for KKR, returning with figures of 1/24.

Asked to bat first, the Knight Riders posted 261/6 in 20 overs. Phil Salt top scored with 75 off 37 with the help of six maximums and as many boundaries. Sunil Narine also hit 71 off 32, smashing four sixes and nine boundaries. The duo put on a 138-run partnership for the opening wicket.

Venkatesh Iyer, Shreyas Iyer and Andre Russell contributed 39 (23), 28 (10) and 24 (12), respectively. Arshdeep Singh picked up two wickets for Punjab, while Sam Curran, Harshal Patel, and Rahul Chahar scalped one wicket apiece.
