Rishabh Pant joins elite company with big landmark on Day 2 of BGT 2024-25 3rd Test
Rishabh Pant has become the third Indian wicketkeeper to achieve 150 dismissals in Test cricket. He reached this milestone on Day 2 (Sunday, December 15) of the third Test in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy at The Gabba in Brisbane.
On the first ball of the 17th over of the Australian innings, Jasprit Bumrah delivered a brilliant ball that landed in the channel outside off. It tempted Usman Khawaja to push forward defensively, leading to an edge that Pant easily collected.
With this, the 27-year-old took his tally to 150 dismissals in Test cricket, including 135 catches and 15 stumpings. He now trails only former captain MS Dhoni, who was involved in 294 dismissals (256 catches and 38 stumpings), and Syed Kirmani, who has 198 dismissals (160 catches and 38 stumpings).
In his 41st Test, Pant has amassed 2,780 runs at an average of 42.76, with 14 half-centuries, six centuries, and a highest score of 159 not out.
India takes three wickets in the first session of Day 2 of the 2024-25 third Test
On Day 1 of the third Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy at The Gabba in Brisbane, India won the toss and chose to bowl first. However, rain interrupted much of the day, with only 13.2 overs played in the first session. Australia were 28-0 at stumps, with Usman Khawaja (19) and Nathan McSweeney at the crease.
On Day 2, India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah made an early impact, dismissing Khawaja for 21 as Pant completed an easy catch behind the stumps. In his next over, Bumrah struck again, removing McSweeney for nine and giving India two quick wickets.
The experienced pair of Marnus Labuschagne and Steven Smith added 37 runs for the third wicket before the former was dismissed for 12, leaving Australia at 75-3.
Following that, Smith and Travis Head looked solid. At lunch on Day 2, the hosts were 104-3, with Smith on 25* and Head on 20*.
