"Rishabh Pant moves fielders by speaking, he did that with his bat" - Ajay Jadeja lauds Yashasvi Jaiswal's knock in IND vs BAN 2024 2nd Test
Ajay Jadeja has lauded Yashasvi Jaiswal for scoring a dominant half-century in India's first innings of the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur. He noted that the left-handed opener was virtually playing with the field set by Najmul Hossain Shanto, the opposition captain.
Jaiswal smashed 72 runs off 51 deliveries as India declared their first innings at 285 for nine on Monday, September 30. They bundled Bangladesh out for 233 in their first innings earlier in the day and reduced them to 26/2 in their second essay at Stumps on Day 4.
During a discussion on Colors Cineplex, Jadeja noted that Jaiswal made Shanto alter his field settings with his shot placements just like Rishabh Pant did verbally in the first Test.
"We have almost gotten used to seeing this from him (Jaiswal) because he does this daily. What Rohit Sharma did was incredible, there sixes, but he has dominated since he has come, whether it was against England or here. The entire team saw his positivity today," he said.
"His specialty was that he played with the opposition captain today. Rishabh Pant moves fielders by speaking, he did that with his bat, especially the deep point fielder. When he was placed square, he used to hit straight. So he played with the entire field today. That was the essence of this knock," the former India captain added.
Jaiswal struck 12 fours and two sixes during his innings. He was particularly severe on Hasan Mahmud, smashing the seamer for 33 runs off 19 deliveries.
"If I have to pick one, I will pick Yashasvi Jaiswal's batting" - RP Singh on the standout performer on Day 4
In the same discussion, RP Singh was asked to pick the standout performer for India on Day 4.
"Everyone contributed and that is why the Indian team is standing in this situation. If I have to pick one, I will pick Yashasvi Jaiswal's batting. The entire team showed intent in batting, especially Jaiswal, because you had to see the explosive power in batting to be in this situation," he responded.
Singh noted that virtually every Indian batter took the Bangladesh attack to the cleaners. The former India pacer added that Jaiswal played the most impactful knock.
"We believed that if the Indian team bats extremely well, they might play at five-and-a-half to six runs per over, but they started with the double of that. They started with 12. You rarely come after deciding that you will take everyone on remand and they hit all bowlers decently. Since you asked for one name, I believe Yashasvi Jaiswal had the biggest impact as a batter in this match," RP Singh elaborated.
Jaiswal gave India a blazing start in Rohit Sharma's (23 off 11) company. He then added 72 runs for the second wicket with Shubman Gill (39 off 36) before being castled by Hasan Mahmud.
