Robin Uthappa picks 3 uncapped IPL 2025 stars who will be contention to make India's 2026 T20 World Cup squad

Former India batter Robin Uthappa has picked three IPL 2025 stars who will be in contention for a place in the India squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup. The cricketer-turned-commentator reckoned that Punjab Kings (PBKS) openers Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, and Rajasthan Royals (RR)'s batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi are likely to earn a maiden call ahead of the ICC event. The remarks came after the trio enjoyed a promising 2025 season with the bat.

The former Orange Cap winner added that the young trio will face a stiff challenge with the likes of Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Sanju Samson already in the T20I side. Uthappa, however, stressed that fitness will play a huge role in the selection of players for the marquee event.

Uthappa said (via The Times of India):

"Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, all of them will definitely be in contention for a World Cup spot. It's about using the remaining T20s before the tournament to figure out the best 15-man squad. You already have Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, all Test players who can also thrive in T20s."
"Then there's Sanju Samson. So it's going to be a challenge figuring out who makes the cut. Fitness will play a key role -- you want a fully fit squad going into a World Cup, and I'm sure that's something the selectors and management will be closely monitoring," he added.

How did the IPL trio perform in the 2025 season?

Priyansh Arya amassed 475 runs in 17 innings at a strike rate of 179.24, including one century and two 50s in IPL 2025. He scored the most runs by a debutant in an IPL season in tournament history. The left-hander broke the previous record held by Devdutt Padikkal (2020).

Like Arya, Vaibhav Suryavanshi turned heads with his power-packed performance for the Royals in his debut season. The 14-year-old scored 252 runs in seven innings at a stunning strike rate of 206.55, including a ton and a fifty.

Meanwhile, Prabhsimran Singh amassed 549 runs in 17 innings at a strike rate of 160.52, comprising four half-centuries. The 24-year-old has been playing for PBKS since 2019.
