"Rohit Sharma has an excellent record in Delhi" - Aakash Chopra on Mumbai Indians players to watch out for in IPL 2024 clash vs Delhi Capitals
Ahead of the Mumbai Indians' (MI) IPL 2024 clash against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, Aakash Chopra has noted that Rohit Sharma has an impressive record at the venue.
With six points from eight games, MI are placed ninth on the points table. A win against the Capitals will help them join three other teams, including their opponents, on eight eights.
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chopra picked Rohit as the first Mumbai Indians player to watch out for in Saturday's afternoon game.
"Who am I looking towards in this match - Rohit Sharma. Rohit Sharma has three half-centuries here. Rohit Sharma has an excellent record in Delhi, and if he is coming with that record, afternoon game, he also played well in the last match, which too was an afternoon game, I am going with Rohit Sharma as my first player to watch out for," he reasoned (6:40).
"He bats well and will be slightly hurt because of the rare failure in the last match, and he will bounce back. He does that in any case at this ground," the former India opener added.
Rohit has amassed 303 runs at a strike rate of 162.90 in eight innings in IPL 2024. The former MI skipper smashed a 27-ball 49 in his side's 29-run win in the reverse fixture at home.
"He got out in the last match, so expect runs from him in this match" - Aakash Chopra on Mumbai Indians' Suryakumar Yadav
Aakash Chopra noted that Suryakumar Yadav is due for runs in the Mumbai Indians' clash against the Delhi Capitals.
"The second player I am choosing is Suryakumar Yadav. He is scoring runs on odd days and getting out on even days. He got out in the last match, so expect runs from him in this match. So Rohit Sharma to begin with, along with Ishan Kishan, and then Suryakumar Yadav because he is an incredible player," he explained (7:20).
The cricketer-turned-commentator chose Jasprit Bumrah as the Mumbai Indians bowler he is eager to watch.
"Jasprit Bumrah has a very ordinary record here. He picks up a wicket after conceding 42 runs. I have to pick a bowler. Even though the numbers are not looking great for Bumrah, I am going with him because he is Bumrah. You can keep those numbers aside. I am backing Bumrah to do well again," Chopra said.
With 13 wickets in eight games, Bumrah is the joint second-highest wicket-taker in IPL 2024, alongside Yuzvendra Chahal. Only Harshal Patel (14) has accounted for more dismissals than the duo this season.
