Rohit Sharma & Jasprit Bumrah among nominees for ICC Men's Player of the Month for June
Star Indian players and T20 World Cup winners Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah have made the final shortlist for the ICC Men's Player of the Month nominees for June 2024. Afghanistan's swashbuckling opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz has also made the shortlist after a stellar T20 World Cup.
Gurbaz ended the T20 World Cup as the highest run-scorer with 281 runs to his name at an average of 35.12. He was one of the main reasons that Afghanistan went all the way to the semifinal of the tournament.
The wicketkeeper-batter was the major contributor with the bat against New Zealand (80) and Australia (60), both games that Afghanistan won to make history. While they had quality in their bowling attack, Gurbaz's runs ensured that the Afghans also posted competitive totals in most of their matches.
The second-highest run-scorer at the T20 World Cup was Indian captain Rohit Sharma with 257 runs at a fantastic strike rate of 156.7. He walked the talk with an ultra-aggressive brand of batting and his best knock was against Australia where he blasted 92 runs off just 41 balls.
Rohit also came good in the semifinal of the tournament with a responsible knock of 57 against England. He led Team India to T20 World Cup glory, ending their 11-year wait for an ICC Trophy.
Jasprit Bumrah also won the Player of the Tournament award in the T20 World Cup 2024
Jasprit Bumrah was simply sensational with the ball throughout the tournament and proved why he was considered the best T20 bowler by many. He picked up 15 wickets at the T20 World Cup at a mind-boggling economy rate of just 4.17, with most batters failing to find a way to dominate him.
The star Indian pacer produced the goods in the final against South Africa as well, with his final two overs going for just six runs and the wicket of Marco Jansen that triggered a colossal Proteas collapse. Jasprit Bumrah deservedly received the Player of the Tournament award for his exploits.
