Rohit Sharma to join the Indian team in Perth for BGT 2024-25 on Nov 24: Reports
Team India skipper Rohit Sharma will be joining the team in Australia on November 24. The skipper will be available for selection for the second Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at the Adelaide Oval from December 6-10.
Rohit stayed back in India, with the team departing in two batches earlier this month. The 37-year-old and his wife, Ritika, were blessed with a child on November 15. The Mumbai cricketer was expected to join the team before the first Test and be a part of it but was unable to do so.
According to a recent report by Cricbuzz, Rohit is expected to join the squad in Perth on November 24, the third day of the first Test. In his absence, the recently appointed Test vice-captain, Jasprit Bumrah, will take command of the proceedings in Perth.
In the press conference held ahead of the first Test, Bumrah had the following to say (via Cricbuzz):
"I spoke with Rohit earlier. But I got a little bit of clarity on leading the side after coming in here."
Jasprit Bumrah will be leading Team India for the second Time. The 30-year-old was the captain for Team India's last Test against England in 2022, which the visitors lost by seven wickets.
Question mark lingers over who could open in the absence of Rohit Sharma
Team India will miss Rohit Sharma as a skipper and more importantly as a batter. The 37-year-old is expected to be replaced by KL Rahul for the first Test. With an injury to Shubman Gill, which sees the Gujarat Titans skipper out of the first Test, there could be a chance that Rahul drops down the batting order and Abhimanyu Easwaran could make a debut and open alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal.
The first Test of the Border Gavaskar 2024-25 will be played from November 22-26 at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
