Rohit Sharma's MI stats: Hitman's record as batter and captain for Mumbai Indians
Rohit Sharma's future with the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise has been a matter of intense debate since he was replaced as captain by all-rounder Hardik Pandya for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The Hitman played as a pure batter under Pandya in IPL 2024 and scored 417 runs in 14 innings at an average of 32.08 and a strike rate of 150, with one hundred and one fifty.
Despite the right-handed batter's impressive effort with the willow, Mumbai Indians failed to make an impact in the 2024 season. The Pandya-led side finished last in the points table, winning only four of their 14 matches. It remains to be seen whether MI will retain the all-rounder as captain for the next IPL season.
Meanwhile, according to former India batter Aakash Chopra, Rohit's long association with the Mumbai Indians franchise is likely to end. Speaking on his YouTube channel recently, Chopra, while responding to a fan query, opined either Rohit might himself leave or MI might leave him. If that happens, it will mark the end of a long and mostly glorious association.
Rohit Sharma is Mumbai Indians' leading run-getter
Rohit joined Mumbai Indians in the 2011 season and his name has been synonymous with the franchise since then. He is the leading run-getter for the MI franchise. In 221 matches (217 innings), he has 5731 runs to his name at an average of 29.69 and a strike rate of 131.05, with two tons and 36 fifties.
The right-handed batter's highest of 109* came against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata in May 2012. Rohit hammered 12 fours and five sixes in his 60-ball knock as Mumbai Indians registered a 27-run win. The 37-year-old also struck a brilliant 105* off 63 balls in a losing cause against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2024. The valiant knock featured 11 fours and five sixes.
Rohit's exceptional record as Mumbai Indians captain
It is no secret that Rohit had a superb record while leading Mumbai Indians in the IPL. He is one of only two captains to have won the T20 league five times - MS Dhoni being the other. Under Hitman, Mumbai Indians won the IPL in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.
Rohit is second on the list of captains with the most wins in the IPL. He led Mumbai Indians in 158 matches out of which the side won 87 matches and lost 67, while four games ended in a tie. Dhoni holds the record for having won the most matches as an IPL skipper. He had been captain in 226 matches, winning 133 matches and losing 91, while two games produced no result.
