Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube and Yashasvi Jaiswal to be felicitated in Mumbai's Vidhan Bhavan on July 5
The four Mumbai players in India's victorious 2024 T20 World Cup squad - Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, will be felicitated at the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan complex in Mumbai on Friday, July 5. Speaker of the state legislature, Rahul Narwekar, confirmed the same on Thursday, July 4.
The T20 World Cup-winning Indian squad arrived back home on the morning of July 4, with photos of their celebrations on the flight and upon landing going viral. They have completed their visit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence and are heading to Mumbai from Delhi for the victory parade in the evening.
According to the PTI, Sena Shiv MLA Pratap Sarnaik brought the matter up today during the Mumbai Players' Assembly, and the four localities will be honored tomorrow afternoon at the Vidhan Bhavan.
Coming to the tournament, the Men in Blue became the first-ever team to clinch the T20 World Cup title without a single defeat. The side started with a win against Ireland in the group stage and finished with a nail-biting victory in the finale against South Africa.
They won three Group Stage and Super Eight encounters, followed by the semi-final and final victories, making it eight in a row.
Looking back at the Mumbai players' performances in the 2024 T20 World Cup
It was a mixed bag for the four Mumbai players at the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA. Skipper Rohit Sharma was sensational as a leader and with the bat, scoring 257 runs at an average of 36.71 and a strike rate of 156.70 in eight outings.
His knocks of 92 and 57 against Australia and England in the final Super Eight outing and the semi-final were match-defining to help eliminate the previous two T20 World Cup champions.
Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav was arguably India's most consistent batter of the tournament despite finishing one shy of 200 runs at an average of 28.42 and a strike rate of 135.37. His back-to-back half-centuries against the USA and Afghanistan helped India win from tricky situations.
Surya also scored an invaluable 47 in the semi-final against England to propel the side to an above-par total.
Shivam Dube had a forgettable World Cup campaign overall with only 133 runs at an average of 22.16 and a strike rate of 114.65. Yet, the tall left-hander had two crucial 30s against the USA and Bangladesh, followed by a pivotal 16-ball 27 in the finale.
As for Yashasvi Jaiswal, the youngster did not get a single game, with India deciding to open with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma throughout the competition.
