RR vs MI: Who won yesterday's match in IPL 2024?
Rajasthan Royals (RR) beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by nine wickets in yesterday's IPL 2024 match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Batting first after winning the toss, MI were held to 179-9 as pacer Sandeep Sharma claimed 5-18. RR opener Yashasvi Jaiswal then clobbered 104* off 60 as the chasing side romped home in 18.4 overs.
Rajasthan came up with a commanding performance in the chase, looking in control from start to end. Jaiswal and Jos Buttler (35 off 25) added 74 for the first wicket in eight overs, a solid partnership that was interrupted briefly due to a drizzle. Yashasvi went after Gerald Coetzee in the fourth over and hammered him for six and two fours.
Buttler and Jaiswal combined to go after Nuwan Thushara as 17 runs came in the last over of the powerplay. Following the rain interruption, RR lost Buttler as he was bowled by a wrong'un from Piyush Chawla. Skipper Sanju Samson (38* off 28) then joined Jaiswal and the duo added an unbroken 109 for the second wicket.
Jaiswal was in his zone on Monday and slammed nine fours and seven sixes. The Rajasthan opener got to a well-deserved hundred by slapping a length ball from Tilak Varma through cover for a single in the 19th over. He also hit the winning runs by cutting the spinner past backward point for four.
Sandeep Sharma five-fer restricts MI to 179-9
Pacer Sharma starred with 4-18 as Rajasthan Royals restricted Mumbai Indians to 179-9 after being asked to bowl first.
Mumbai got off to a poor start as Rohit Sharma (6) skied a big hit off Trent Boult in the first over. Sharma then dismissed Ishan Kishan for a duck as the left-hander poked at one outside off. Rajasthan took a smart review to get the decision in their favour. Suryakumar Yadav (10) also perished cheaply, whipping a length ball from Sharma to mid-on.
Mohammad Nabi took on Avesh Khan in the last over of the powerplay and slammed him for a six and two fours off consecutive balls. The MI all-rounder, however, perished to Yuzvendra Chahal for 23. He became the RR leg-spinner's 200th IPL victim, chipping a simple return catch.
Varma (65 off 45) and Nehal Wadhera (49 off 24) lifted the batting side, adding 99 for the fifth wicket. The duo hit boundaries at crucial intervals and went after Avesh in the 14th over, which cost Rajasthan 19. Wadhera slammed a one-handed six down the ground and ended the over with a pull into the stands.
Varma and Wadhera also took on Chahal in the 16th over, whacking him for three sixes. The brilliant stand ended when Wadhera upper cut a slow bouncer from Boult to short third man.
MI skipper Hardik Pandya (10) was trapped lbw by Avesh. Sharma then claimed three wickets in the 20th over. Varma hit one to long-on, while Coetzee (0) and Tim David (3) perished trying to up the ante.
