"Same as the difference between Virat Kohli and Babar Azam" - Basit Ali draws comparison between Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal

Former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali believes that India's Yashasvi Jaiswal is a far better batter than Shubman Gill. He opined that the difference between the two youngsters is comparable to the difference between Virat Kohli and Babar Azam.

He opined that Jaiswal should have been part of India's squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. During a live session on his YouTube channel, here's what Basit Ali said on being asked who is the better player between Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal (from 13:33):

"Shubman Gill has some good performances, but technically, Yashasvi Jaiswal is far better. The difference between Jaiswal and Gill is the same as the difference between Virat Kohli and Babar Azam. Jaiswal is a top player and not picking him in the ODI squad is an insult to him."

The cricketer-turned-commentator suggested that while Gill would do well on fast tracks, his success would reduce drastically in swinging conditions, adding:

"Gill is a forearm player. He will succeed where the ball will come onto you quickly and you need to hit cut and pull, otherwise, his initial movement is very lazy. With his feet movement, he will be troubled by the swinging ball."

Yashasvi Jaiswal is part of India's squad for the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. However, he was left out of the ODI team. Shubman Gill was named vice-captain for both the series.

In the aforementioned video, Basit Ali also questioned the Indian think tank's decision to make Shubman Gill the vice-captain for the two white-ball teams.

Reckoning that Yashasvi Jaiswal would be a much better captain than Gill in the future, Basit remarked:

"Yashasvi Jaiswal will be a better captain than Shubman Gill. It is a big thing that India have appointed Gill as the vice-captain in both the white-ball formats."

India's tour of Sri Lanka will kick off with the T20I series. The opening encounter will take place at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele on Saturday, July 27.
