"Sammy and I learning the art of discipline from Rohit Sharma"- Shubman Gill poses with Indian captain amidst reports of a fallout

Team India batter Shubman Gill recently posed with Rohit Sharma and put an end to rumors of differences between the duo. Several reports surfaced online over the past week that Gill unfollowed Rohit on Instagram after being released from the Indian squad in the USA. He was not part of the main 15-man squad but was one of the four reserve players traveling with the team.

As Men in Blue's group stage campaign concluded this weekend, reports emerged that BCCI instructed Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan to return to India. Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed will continue to be available as the traveling reserves in case the need arises.

Amidst all of this, Shubman Gill took to his official Instagram handle and shared a couple of pictures in the company of Rohit Sharma to indicate that all was well between them. Rohit's daughter Samaira Sharma is also present with them in the picture. Gill captioned the post:

"Sammy and I learning the art of discipline from @rohitsharma45."

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli opening for India in 2024 T20 World Cup ahead of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill

The selectors put their faith in experienced players as they opted to go with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as openers for the 2024 T20 World Cup. As a result, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been relegated to the bench, while Shubman Gill could not find a place in the 15-man squad.

The pair is yet to fire in the tournament as they failed to score much against new ball in difficult batting conditions in New York. Rohit scored a half-century in the first match against Ireland but flopped in the next two games. Kohli endured a lean run of form in all three games with scores of 1, 4 and 0.

Former West Indies captain Brian Lara recently backed the veteran duo to continue as openers for the rest of the tournament. During a discussion on Star Sports, Lara said:

"Definitely, India had the option to play a left-right opening partnership. They went with two great players, two guys who’ve done a great job for India with the bat for their individual franchise as well in terms of the captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. I think they’ve got to stick with it as you just said if you do make changes on top, Virat Kohli has to come in the order a little bit lower and that’s going to upset things there."
