“Shadman thought he was facing Shaheen there” - Fans troll Bangladesh as they are bowled out for 149 in IND vs BAN 2024 1st Test

Bangladesh were bowled out for just 149 in the first innings of their ongoing Test against India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, September 20. This handed India an advantage of 227, who opted to bat again rather than enforcing the follow-on.

Bangladesh had a nightmare start to their innings. They lost opener Shadman Islam in the first over as the southpaw left one from Bumrah only for his off stump to be rattled. Zakir Hasan fell during a double strike from Akash Deep, who also got Mominul Haque for a first-ball duck.

Post lunch, the visitors lost two quick wickets as Mushfiqur Rahim and Shanto were dismissed cheaply. Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan added 51 runs for the fifth wicket but the introduction of Ravindra Jadeja saw both batters get dismissed while playing the sweep shot. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj shared the three wickets as Bangladesh were dismantled for 149.

Fand on social media enjoyed the display of fast bowling. Here are a few reactions:

"Shadman really thought he was facing Shaheen there. This is Bumrah brother," a fan wrote on X.
"Hueheue bhook lagi thi, suiraj ka wicket kha Gaye 🤣🤣🤣"- a user said
"As expected India do not enforce follow-on. Understandably so, as top order require some much needed batting practice ahead of the long test season ahead." - another user said

Team India were put in bat first by Bangladesh and had a forgettable first hour of play, with the hosts being reduced to 34/3 on Day 1. Ravichandran Ashwin's (113 off 133) sixth Test ton and fifties from Ravindra Jadeja (84 off 126) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (56 off 118) helped them register 376 on board, a total too much to handle for Bangladesh.

Team India have decided to bat again rather than enforcing the follow-on. At the time of writing, they were 46/2 after 10, leading by 273 runs, with Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill at the crease.
