Shaheen Afridi gets smashed for 21 runs in his first over in AUS vs PAK 2024 2nd T20I

Australian opener Jake Fraser McGurk went on a leather hunt against Pakistan spearhead Shaheen Afridi in the second T20I between Australia and Pakistan today, November 16. The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) plays host to the second of the three contests in the T20I series.

Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. Their opening batters, Jake Fraser McGurk and Matthew Short walked out to the middle to open their innings with Shaheen Afridi being handed the ball to bowl in the first over. Off the very first delivery, Short took on Shaheen and picked up three runs.

Jake Fraser McGurk then took the bowler on. He smashed three consecutive boundaries off Shaheen's bowling, hitting them towards long on, extra cover and deep third man. He was dropped on the fifth ball of the over and added salt to the wounds, smashing a maximum and ending the over on a high.

Take a look at the over here.

The over saw Shaheen go for 21 runs. The last four deliveries saw him being hit for 18 runs in boundaries.

Australia managed to reach their team 50 in the fourth over but things haven't gone their way since then. Jake Fraser McGurk (20 off 9) was the first one to fall, with Haris Rauf accounting for his wicket. Rauf would then continue to wreak havoc as on the last ball of the fourth over, he would have the Australian skipper, Josh Inglis (0 off 2) caught at point.

Things wouldn't get any easier for the hosts as their scoring rate would drop and they lost wickets at regular intervals, with the score reading 147/9 at the end of their 20 overs. Australia lead the three match T20I series 1-0 after a win in the rain-affected match at the Gabba in Brisbane.
