Shai Hope, Ben Duckett and Lockie Ferguson are among the big names to be picked in the BBL 2024 draft
West Indies batter Shai Hope, England opener Ben Duckett, and Kiwi pacer Lockie Ferguson were among the top names to be picked up by BBL franchises in the international players draft. The draft was held in Melbourne today (September 1.
Listed in Round One, Duckett was the first player to be picked in the draft, with the English opener heading to the Melbourne Stars. Fellow Englishman James Vince was next in line and was snapped up by the Sydney Sixers.
Lockie Ferguson, Colin Munro, and Finn Allen were the other Kiwis who were picked up in Round One. Shai Hope, the only West Indian in the category, reunited with Ricky Ponting and will be playing for the Hobart Hurricanes.
Many English players were there in Round Two, with Tom Curran, Melbourne Stars pre-signing, being reaffirmed. Jacob Bethell, England's latest sensation in T20s was picked up by the Melbourne Renegades. Ollie Pope, Chris Jordan, and Sam Billings were picked up by the Adelaide Strikers, Hobart Hurricanes, and Sydney Thunder, respectively.
Pope will be playing his first season in the BBL this year. Akeal Hosein, who played for the Melbourne Renegades, will now be playing for the Sydney Sixers.
Fabian Allen and Sherfane Rutherford to add some more Caribbean flavor in the 2024-25 BBL season
In Round Three, West Indies all-rounders Sherfane Rutherford and Fabian Allen were among the top names to be picked by the Sydney Thunder and the Adelaide Strikers, respectively. Pakistan's Usama Mir, the last name in the round, was picked up by the Melbourne Stars.
Bangladesh's Rishad Hossain was snapped up by the Hobart Hurricanes, while Englishmen Tom Alsop, Keaton Jennings and Jafer Chohan were picked up by the Brisbane Heat, Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers, respectively.
