Sheffield Shield 2024/25: Where to watch and live-streaming details in India
Australia's premier red-ball competition, Sheffield Shield 2024/25 kicked off on October 8 and will run till March 30 next year. In what will be a packed summer, the tournament coincides with the domestic one-day and the Big Bash League.
The Sheffield Shield follows a double round-robin format, where each team plays the other five teams twice. A total of 30 games will be played in the league stage. Subsequently, the top two sides from the league stage will contest the final.
So far, six games have been played in the 2024/25 edition. Western Australia are currently at the top of the points table with two victories and a loss, with a net run rate of +0.328. South Australia and Victoria have the same number of wins but possess an inferior net run rate.
Meanwhile, Queensland, New South Wales and Tasmania haven't opened their account in two appearances, and are placed in subsequent positions.
South Australia's Alex Carey is the leading batter with 366 runs in four innings, with a top score of 123*. Meanwhile, his teammate Nathan McAndrew has scalped 10 wickets in two games.
The next round of the Sheffield Shield from Friday (November 1) will witness a triple-header. In this crucial leg, the Australia hopefuls will look to stake a strong claim for the 2024/25 Border Gavaskar Trophy, starting November 22. Few of them are currently representing Australia A in their first-class fixture against India A.
Australia's key pacer, Josh Hazlewood will play his first game of the season for New South Wales, while Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon have been rested. Hazlewood has picked up the most wickets (51) in the current World Test Championship cycle and will look to prepare well ahead of the India series.
