Starting Friday, June 13, the senior Indian team will play a practice match against India A to boost their preparations for the upcoming series.
Shubman Gill's first Test assignment as captain
Shubman Gill became India's 37th Test captain, replacing Rohit Sharma, who announced his retirement from the format on May 7. Gill has played 32 Tests so far and has scored 1893 runs.
Virat Kohli also announced his retirement from the longest format of the game on May 12. In the absence of the two senior and experienced batters on an away tour, Shubman Gill's responsibility will double up as both captain and batter.
Leading the side in and against England for the first time will not be the only challenge for Gill; he will also have to bat with a lot of responsibility.
This series marks the beginning of a new era in Test cricket for India under a young captain in Gill. It also marks the start of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle for India.
Having faced defeats in their previous two Test series against New Zealand at home (3-0) and against Australia in Australia (3-1), the Indian team will be keen to bounce back with a solid performance in England.
