SLC and BCB join hands with BCCI over India’s stance on not to travel Pakistan for 2023 Asia Cup - Reports
The cricket boards of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have reportedly joined hands with BCCI for the latter's decision not to send Team India to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup, which is scheduled to be played in September.
The development comes after Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief indicated that Pakistan might not participate in the 2023 World Cup if India refuses to travel to Pakistan to compete in the 2023 Asia Cup. Speaking to Geo TV, Sethi said:
"In case, India refuses to travel to Pakistan to compete in the Asia Cup, chances are there that the Pakistan government would not allow the Men in Green to cross the borders for their World Cup participation. In that case, cricket will be the ultimate sufferer.”
He continued:
"There should be a middle way to solve problems that surely threaten the smooth hosting of ICC and ACC events. In case, India refuses to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, the government will not allow us to travel to India to figure in the World Cup matches.”
PCB wants written guarantee from BCCI regarding India’s 2025 Champions Trophy participation amid uncertainty over 2023 Asia Cup
PCB chief Najam Sethi has asked for a written assurance from BCCI secretary Jay Shah over Team India’s participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan before sending their team for the 2023 World Cup.
According to PTI, the BCCI has identified Ahmedabad, Chennai, Bengaluru and Kolkata as possible venues for Indo-Pak games.
As per Geo TV sources, Sethi is visiting Dubai to hold meetings with officials from International Cricket Council (ICC) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC). He's likely to return to Pakistan on May 11.
Meanwhile, the ACC is likely to make a final decision regarding the 2023 Asia Cup. The proposed hybrid model suggests that India will host their games in UAE, while Pakistan will host the remaining games.
Pakistan, India, Nepal, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are scheduled to play in the continental cup.
