Smriti Mandhana breaks huge record with knock of 91 in IND-W vs WI-W 2024 1st ODI

Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana made history on Sunday, December 22, by becoming the player with the most runs in a calendar year across all formats in women’s cricket. She achieved this milestone during the first ODI against the West Indies at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.

The opening batter narrowly missed out on a well-deserved fifth century of the year in ODI cricket, scoring 91 off 102 balls with 13 boundaries. In doing so, Mandhana surpassed South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt, who had accumulated 1,593 runs across formats this year, including seven fifties and five centuries.

Mandhana now has 1,602 runs, with 10 fifties and five centuries, and still has two more games to play in the ongoing series against the West Indies.

Meanwhile, England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt ranks third on the all-time list, having scored 1,346 runs in 2022, including six fifties and three centuries. Mandhana occupies the fourth and fifth spots, with 1,291 runs in 2018 and 1,290 runs in 2022, respectively.
