"Sometimes when I see children trying to copy my action, I don't recommend it"- Jasprit Bumrah opens up after Day 2 of IND vs BAN 1st Test 2024
Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah suggested children not to copy his complicated and unconventional action despite it yielding incredible success after Day 2 of the ongoing first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai.
Bumrah has captured the global audience over the past few years with his outstanding bowling across formats. As a result, many have tried to replicate his action.
The 30-year-old returned to action with the ball after an extended break since the 2024 T20 World Cup on Friday, September 20. Bumrah showed no signs of rust, picking up figures of 4/50 in 11 overs.
His brilliance led to India bowling Bangladesh out for a dismal 149 and capturing a 227-run first innings lead.
When told about his impact worldwide, Bumrah responded to the broadcasters after play on Day 2:
"I don't know how to react to that. But you know, when I was a kid, I used to. I was a fan of fast bowling. I learned through watching the television. I fell in love with the sport by that. Now, sometimes when I see children trying to copy my action, I don't recommend it. But you know, sometimes it is what it is. You get inspired by something and you try and find your own way. I'm very happy to create an impact whenever I can." [H/T India Today]
During his spell, Bumrah also reached the 400-wicket mark in international cricket. He became the third-fastest Indian pacer to reach the landmark behind Kapil Dev and Mohammed Shami.
"I don't control the narrative" - Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah maintained not getting too high or low based on his performances and the narrative at any particular moment.
The champion pacer was recently the 'Player of the Tournament' during India's 2024 T20 World Cup triumph, picking up 15 wickets at an average of under nine and an economy of 4.17.
"I try to give my absolute best. Other than that, whatever is the narrative. I don't control the narrative. I don't go too high with the praises. I don't go too low, you know when challenges come my way. So I try to focus on what I can do, and I try to give my absolute best." [H/T India Today]
He added:
"I wanted to play for India, and he's (Parthiv Patel) seen my journey and you know how hard we work as a group. So playing for India. No complaints. And I want to give my best for as long as I can."
Coming to the ongoing Chennai Test, India are in complete control at the end of the second day with a second innings score of 81/3 and an overall lead of 308 runs.
