“Sorry Marnus” - Beer snake man, who disrupted play during 2nd BGT 2024-25 Test, opens up on sight screen incident
Among the few heated moments on the field during the second Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test in Adelaide, one involved Lachie Burtt, popularly referred to as the 'beer snake man', who caused a disruption in play during the second Test.
For those unaware, Burtt caused a disturbance in play during the Adelaide Test on Friday (December 6). Burtt ran with a beer snake, basically a pile of beer cups stacked up together that made a snake-like figure, near the sight screen. As Lachie appeared in front of the sight screen, Marnus Labuschagne, who was on strike at the moment, pulled away, and Mohammed Siraj, who was the bowler, threw the ball towards Labuschagne in frustration as he was almost at the end of his run-up.
Burtt has now opened up on the incident and explained the reason behind his action.
“In my head at that time, I just wanted to get away from the guard, so I saw the space and hopped over the tiny white rope,” he was quoted as saying by 9News.
He apologized to Marnus and stated that he did not think of the consequences his action would cause.
“I didn’t really have time to stop and think what I was doing right now and what the effects were going to be because of it. I did feel a bit silly, it wasn’t the right thing … sorry Marnus," Burtt said.
However, Burtt also mentioned that he felt a small disruption would not matter as the game continued after a brief disruption without much delay.
"It’s probably not the right thing to do, but no one got hurt. I didn’t jump the fence or anything. It was one ball, and Marnus (Labuschagne) got a four after that, so no worries," he added.
Following the incident, Lachie Burtt had to leave the Adelaide Oval for the remainder of the day's play in the second Test.
Mohammed Siraj involved in another exchange during the Adelaide Test
Besides the episode involving Marnus, Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj was also involved in another incident during the second game in Adelaide.
After dismissing Travis Head, Siraj gave a fierce send-off, which was not well received by the home crowd in Adelaide. The pacer was involved in an animated and heated exchange with Head and was also booed by the crowd.
