SRH set to retain Heinrich Klaasen and Travis Head for IPL 2025, Pat Cummins to continue as captain: Reports
2016 IPL winners Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are reportedly set to retain Heinrich Klaasen, Travis Head and Pat Cummins for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. SRH were the runner-ups of the 2024 IPL season.
Sunrisers Hyderabad broke some run-scoring records in the last edition of the IPL. They scored three out of the top five IPL totals against Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals. They reached the finals of the IPL, where they lost against Kolkata Knight Riders, missing out on what could have been a second league title for them.
With only five retention spots and a Right to Match allowed, teams have been forced to only retain a core of their players, with some teams touted to experience a huge shift. As per ESPNCricinfo, the Hyderabad-based franchise is expected to retain Heinrich Klaasen, skipper Pat Cummins and opener Abhishek Sharma for INR 23 crore, 18 crore and 11 crore, respectively. Cummins is expected to continue as the captain.
Added to the three names mentioned above, up-and-coming India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy and Australian opener Travis Head are also expected to be retained, completing their five retention spots. The prices for the two, however, have not been revealed.
Klaasen makes the first retention spot on the basis of his form last year. The Protea wicketkeeper-batter scored 479 runs at a staggering strike rate of 171. Besides, he also adds some extra fees to his retention, with the highest price cap being announced as INR 18 crore.
IPL franchises expected to submit their retention lists latest by October 31
All IPL franchises have been instructed to submit their retention lists at best by October 31, 2024, by 5 pm IST. The teams will also be allotted their RTM cards on the auction table, depending on how many slots are available.
