Sri Lanka's Niroshan Dickwella facing indefinite ban for doping violations: ReportsĀ
Sri Lanka's wicketkeeper-batter Niroshan Dickwella is set to be suspended from all forms of cricket due to a doping violation during the Lanka Premier League 2024 last month, multiple reports in Sri Lankan media have claimed on Friday. He is said to have failed an anti-doping test for a drug during the domestic T20 league.
According to newswire.lk, which cited sources in Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), he's likely to get an indefinite ban while the investigation is ongoing. An official announcement from the board is expected to follow soon.
Dickwella was the captain of the Galle Marvels in the tournament. Opening the batting, he could score just 184 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 153.33, partly due to his ultra-aggressive approach to give his side good starts in the powerplay.
His side reached the final of the tournament but were comprehensively beaten by the Jaffna Kings. Dickwella scored just five runs off eight balls in the game.
This is the second big controversy in the 31-year-old's career. In 2021, he along with Danushka Gunathilaka and Kusal Mendis was banned for a year due to a bio-bubble breach in England.
He hasn't been part of the national team for a long time, playing his last Test in early 2023 and his last white-ball international in 2022.
