"Steamrolled by the mighty Indian team" - Fans react as Rohit Sharma-led side dominates Bangladesh in IND vs BAN 2024 1st Test
Fans on social media have reacted to the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team securing a commanding victory in the first fixture of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh in Chennai. The Indians prevailed by 280 runs to kickoff the series in strong fashion.
After being invited to bat first, India were stuttering at 34/3 with some of their key batters departing early. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal (56) and Rishabh Pant (39) steadied the ship for the home team with a 62-run stand. Afterwards, the contributions of Ravichandran Ashwin (113) and Ravindra Jadeja (86) boosted India's score to 376. Hasan Mahmud bagged a fifer for the Bangladesh team.
In response, the visitors were bowled out for 149, with Jasprit Bumrah being the wrecker-in-chief with 4/50. The second innings saw Shubman Gill and Pant score centuries, as the Indian team set up a 515-run target for the Tigers.
Although Bangladesh started on a fine note with their opening partnership putting on 62, they were eventually bundled out for 234. Veteran spinner Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers with 6/88.

Rohit Sharma praises Rishabh Pant's performance in IND vs BAN 1st Test
Indian captain Rohit Sharma lavished praise on keeper Rishabh Pant for his fighting spirit, which saw him make an international comeback this year. In his first Test since December 2022, Pant scored a match-winning century, which helped India put up a strong score in the second innings.
"He's [Pant] been through some really tough times. The way he has managed himself through those tough times was superb to watch," Sharma said. "He came back in the IPL, followed by a very successful World Cup and this is the format he loves the most."
He added:
"It was just about giving him the game time. Credit to him as well; he went on to play Duleep Trophy and got ready for this Test match and had an impact straightaway in the game."
Rohit Sharma and his men will be confident heading into the second Test against Bangladesh starting September 27 at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
