"Stop being silly" - Harbhajan Singh slams Michael Vaughan for his comments on India's 68-run win over England in 2024 T20 World Cup semifinals
Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has suggested that the conditions in Guyana suited the Indian team, while England could have made it to the final had they topped Group 2. He opined that Jos Buttler and company had a better chance of winning in Trinidad, the venue for the first semifinal.
England's campaign ended in heartbreak as they suffered a 68-run loss to India in the second 2024 T20 World Cup semifinals in Guyana on Thursday, June 27. Following the defeat, Vaughan wrote on his X handle:
"If England had beaten SA they would have got the Trinidad semi and I believe they would have won that game .. So no complaints they haven’t been good enough .. But Guyana has been a lovely venue pick for India."
Harbhajan Singh lost his cool over Michael Vaughan's remarks and schooled the cricketer-turned-expert by pointing out that the conditions in Guyana were the same for both teams.
The former Indian spinner didn't mince his words as he urged Vaughan to avoid making nonsensical comments and wrote:
"What makes u think Guyana was a good venue for India ? Both Teams played on the same venue . England won the toss that was an advantage . Stop being silly . England was outplayed by India in all departments. Accept the fact and Move on and keep ur rubbish with urself. Talk logic not Nonsense."
England won the toss and chose to field first. India posted an impressive 171-run total on the tough wicket. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav were the top performers with the bat, scoring 57 and 47, respectively.
The Jos Buttler-led side went down without a fight, with their wickets falling like nine pins in the run chase. They were bundled out for just 103. Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel bagged three wickets each, while Jasprit Bumrah finished with two scalps.
Michael Vaughan was also trolled by Ravichandran Ashwin after India's comprehensive win over England in the 2024 T20 World Cup semifinals
Michael Vaughan reckoned that India had a massive advantage on the Guyana pitch, while England were expected to struggle on the slow and spin-friendly surface.
Giving his take on the conditions, Michael Vaughan wrote on X:
"India throughly deserve to be in the final .. The best team in tournament so far .. Was always going to hard for England on this pitch .. India just so much better on lower slower spinning pitches."
Ravichandran Ashwin responded to Vaughan's tweet with a sarcastic reply. He posted a calculus equation to joke about England's loss.
"∫ 1 dx = x + C. ∫ a dx = ax+ C. ∫ xn dx = ((xn+1)/(n+1))+C ; n≠1. Hence, India won," he wrote.
