"When he grows up, I have a lot of stories to tell him" - Jasprit Bumrah on the special feeling of winning Perth Test in presence of son
Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who led the team in the first Test against Australia, said that he would cherish the memories of the famous win in Perth with his son Angad. Admitting that his son is too young to understand what he and the Indian team have achieved, he added that when Angad grows up, the cricketer will have a lot of stories him.
Apart from being in Perth for the first 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia, Angad was also present at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, when Team India won the 2024 T20 World Cup by beating South Africa in a tense final.
Speaking to the media after leading India to a 295-run win over the Aussies in Perth, Bumrah got a bit sentimental. He opened up about how he would cherish the memories of this triumph and tell his son Angad, who was born in September 2023, tales about the match when he grows up.
"This is a special win, first win as a captain, very happy with that. My son is also here, so I'll cherish it with my son, and I'll remember this for a while. So, it's very special," Bumrah admitted.
"He's very young now, but when he grows up, I have a lot of stories to tell him - he was young and he was in Perth and, you know, we won a very important match. He also came in the T20 World Cup. So, he doesn't know all this now, but when he grows up, I can tell him that he was sitting in the stands when we won very important matches for India," the proud 30-year-old added.
One of the world's top bowlers across formats, Bumrah married noted sports presenter and anchor Sanjana Ganesan in March 2021.
"Very happy with the way we came back into the game" - Jasprit Bumrah reflects on Perth triumph
The match in Perth was the second instance of Bumrah leading India in a Test match. Under his leadership, India went down to England by seven wickets in Birmingham in July 2022. The pacer added that he's extremely pleased with India's win in Perth, especially their fightback after being bowled out cheaply.
"Pretty proud. You know, this was my second game. I captained in Birmingham as well, in the first phase we were ahead, and then England played really well. So, yes, you'll always take learnings from that," the stand-in skipper said.
"I'm very happy with the way we came back into the game and then the way the batting stepped up and the bowlers, with a new bowling line-up, were responding," he added.
Having missed the first Test due to personal reasons, Rohit Sharma will be back to lead India in the second Test, which begins in Adelaide from December 6.
