"Such a crazy coincidence" - Tabraiz Shamsi on having identical T20I record as Japsrit Bumrah
South Africa's left-arm spinner Tabraiz Shamsi recently pointed out his identical bowling record in T20Is as Team India's pace spearhead Japsrit Bumrah. He shared the statistics screenshot and expressed his amazement at the coincidence.
Both Shamsi and Bumrah have featured in 70 T20I each. Interestingly, the two bowlers have also bowled the same number of balls and have an identical wickets tally.
Highlighting the similarly, Shamsi wrote on the microblogging platform X:
"Fun fact... Jasprit Bumrah and I have played the exact same amount of T20 international games Bowled the exact same number of balls in those games And taken the exact same amount of wickets! Such a crazy coincidence."
While Jasprit Bumrah and Tabraiz Shamsi have a nearly identical T20I record, the Indian speedster has a better economy rate of 6.27 than Shamsi's 7.39 economy rate. It is worth mentioning that the two have a bowling strike rate of 16.9 in T20Is.
"There is no comparison" - Tabraiz Shamsi clarifies that he wasn't comparing himself to Jasprit Bumrah
Responding to a comment on his post, Tabraiz Shamsi clarified that he didn't intend to compare himself to Jasprit Bumrah by sharing the T20I bowling record.
He emphasized that he posted the screenshot because of the uncanny similarity of the statistics. Shamsi wrote:
"I havnt read through the comments but yes offcourse the negative comments and thoughts would come out first There is no comparison. Just a crazy fact that we've played the same amount of games, taken the same wickets aaand the freakiest of all, bowled the same amount of balls."
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah will be in action in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 Test series between India and Australia. He will be India's vice-captain for the five-match series.
He will captain India in the Test series opener if skipper Rohit Sharma, who recently became a father for the second time, is unavailable. The first Test will be played in Perth from Friday, November 22.
