SunRisers Hyderabad get Mohammad Shami for INR 10 crore at IPL 2025 auction
SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) roped in Mohammad Shami for INR 10 crore at the IPL 2025 auction. The bidding process is underway in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Notably, Shami was a part of the Gujarat Titans (GT) squad till the 2024 edition of the tournament.
While Gujarat had an option to use the Right to Match (RTM) card, they opted not to, as SRH won the final bid. Shami had been on an almost year-long break owing to an injury but returned to playing professional cricket at the Ranji Trophy.
Shami marked his return in style as he picked up a four-wicket haul for Bengal and carried that form with the bat as well by playing a 36-run knock, proving his worth with the willow. Shami, who shone brightly at the IPL for GT, also helping the side clinch the 2022 title, will now join the Orange Army.
SunRisers Hyderabad lose Arshdeep Singh’s bid to Punjab Kings
The SunRisers Hyderabad looked set to buy Arshdeep Singh before Punjab Kings (PBKS) used their ‘Right to Match’ (RTM) card and won the bid. SRH raised the bid to INR 18 crore, which PBKS, who have the highest purse at the auction, matched.
While they bid for several other marquee players, they could only add Mohammad Shami to their side. Having entered the auction with INR 45 crore in their purse, SRH spent INR 10 crore on Shami and hence have INR 35 crore remaining after their first buy.
SRH retained five players ahead of the auction - Pat Cummins, Heinrich Klaasen, Travis Head, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Abhishek Sharma. With Shami’s addition, the franchise now have six players in their Orange Army.
Shami missed IPL 2024 owing to an injury to his left ankle, which came as a big blow the Titans, who had already seen their then-skipper Hardik Pandya move to his previous team - Mumbai Indians.
