Suryakumar Yadav to lead India's T20I side against Sri Lanka; Shubman Gill to deputize
Star batter Suryakumar Yadav has been named India's captain for the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka set to begin on July 27. Opening batter Shubman Gill, who led the Indian team in Zimbabwe, has been named vice-captain.
All-rounder Hardik Pandya was named as the vice-captain in the T20 World Cup squad and it seemed like he would be the heir to Rohit Sharma after the latter retired from the shortest format. However, several reports about Suryakumar being a top contender have been proved true.
A total of nine players from India's victorious T20 World Cup squad have made it to the squad for the three T20Is in Sri Lanka. The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Washington Sundar and Shivam Dube did well in Zimbabwe and also find themselves in the current squad.
Riyan Parag didn't have a great run in the T20Is against Zimbabwe, scoring just 24 runs from three games. However, he has been picked ahead of the likes of Abhishek Sharma and other youngsters from that series and will have another crack at proving his mettle.
After impressive performances in the limited opportunities that they have received, the likes of Rinku Singh and Ravio Bishnoi have a chance of cementing their place and overshadowing the disappointment of missing the T20 World Cup plane.
