Suryakumar Yadav surpasses MS Dhoni on illustrious list during his knock of 48 in SMAT 2024-25 final
Suryakumar Yadav played a crucial knock of 48 off 35 as Mumbai beat Madhya Pradesh by five wickets in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 final at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday, December 15. The 34-year-old struck four fours and three sixes in his innings as he surpassed MS Dhoni on an illustrious list.
Suryakumar is third on the list of Indian batters with the most sixes in T20 cricket. With three maximums in the SMAT 2024-25 final, the right-handed batter's tally of sixes in the T20 format stands at 341 from 280 innings. Dhoni has hit 338 sixes in 342 innings The 43-year-old will get a chance to add to his tally when he represents Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025.
Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma tops the list of Indian batters with most sixes in the T20 format. In 435 innings, the 37-year-old has slammed 525 maximums. Another batting legend, Virat Kohli, occupies the second spot in the list. The 36-year-old has struck 416 sixes in 382 innings. Keeper-batter Sanju Samson completes the top five with 334 maximums from 277 innings.
Suryakumar Yadav's performance in SMAT 2024-25
Suryakumar played five matches for Mumbai in the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The dynamic right-handed batter scored 132 runs in five innings at an average of 26.40 and a strike rate of 132.
Team India's T20I captain began his SMAT 2024-25 campaign with a blazing 70 off 46 against Services, a knock which featured seven fours and four sixes. He made four in the game against Andhra and was dismissed for nine and one in the quarter-final and semi-final against Vidarbha and Baroda respectively.
Suryakumar, though, lifted himself and smashed a crucial 48 off 35 as Mumbai chased down a challenging target of 175 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final against Madhya Pradesh.
Batting first, MP put up 174-8 as skipper Rajat Patidar clubbed a brilliant 81* off 40. In their chase, Mumbai got home in 17.5 overs. Opener Ajinkya Rahane contributed 37 off 30, while Suryansh Shedge whacked 36* off 15, with three fours and three sixes.
