Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 Points Table: Updated standings after Round 2
The second round of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024-25 finished on Monday, November 25. This round saw a total of 18 games taking place across the country.
Maharashtra, Chandigarh, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, and Madhya Pradesh are the table-toppers of the five groups. Many teams tasted their first victory of the tournament in the second round and should expect a serious battle in the coming days.
On that note, let's take a look at the points table after the conclusion of Round 2 of SMAT 2024-25.
Madhya Pradesh rise to top of Group A
Rajasthan continued their unbeaten run and are at top of the table with wins in both league matches. They posted 217 and beat Mizoram by 62 runs. Meanwhile, Harpreet Brar helped Punjab to open their account in the tournament. He took three wickets as the side won by six wickets against Bihar.
Madhya Pradesh secured a 101-run win against Meghalaya, and are now at the top of the table. In the final contest, Bengal won by eight wickets against Hyderabad.
Tamil Nadu and Baroda win two in a row in Group B
Tamil Nadu secured a dominant 134-run against Sikkim on Monday. They are atop the Group B standings with wins in both games and a net run-rate of +4.425. Meanwhile, Krunal Pandya-led Baroda won by five wickets against Uttarakhand. This was the side's second win, but they have an inferior net run-rate compared to Tamil Nadu.
In other contests, Gujarat chased down a 197-run target with five wickets to spare against Saurashtra, while Karnataka sealed a 186-run chase against Tripura. Both teams opened their account in the tournament.
Haryana and Delhi continue their strong showing in Group C
Haryana posted a mammoth total of 255, riding on Himanshu Rana's 91-run knock against Arunachal Pradesh, and won the game by 175 runs. Meanwhile, Delhi secured a 35-run victory over Jammu & Kashmir. Both sides secured their second victory on the trot, with Haryana having a better run-rate.
Jharkhand won by 88 runs against Manipur, while Uttar Pradesh bowled out Himachal Pradesh for 100 runs and secured a comfortable seven-wicket win. It was the first victory in the tournament for both teams.
Chandigarh maintain dominance in Group D
Chandigarh set up a 192-run target for Vidarbha and won the game by five runs. With this victory, they rose to the top of the table with two wins.
Meanwhile, Railways secured their first victory after beating Odisha by seven wickets. Puducherry also secured their first win by beating Chhattisgarh by six wickets.
Maharashtra clinch a thrilling victory to top Group E
In a tough contest, Maharashtra chased down the 188-run target against Kerala with two balls to spare. They are now at the top of the table with wins in both games. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh bundled out Nagaland for 77 and completed a eight-wicket victory.
In another contest, Services won by 22 runs against Goa to grab their first win in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
