Team India all-rounder Shivam Dube ruled out of T20I series against Bangladesh; Mumbai Indians youngster named as replacement

Team India all-rounder Shivam Dube has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. Dube was initially named in the 15-man squad for these matches, but a back injury has forced him to remain on the sidelines.

Dube has been a regular fixture in the Indian playing XI over the past year and was also part of the side that won the 2024 T20 World Cup in June. The selectors have called up another southpaw, Tilak Varma, as Dube's replacement for the Bangladesh series. The Mumbai Indians youngster last played a T20I in January this year against Afghanistan. BCCI's official statement on the matter read:

"All-rounder Shivam Dube is ruled out of the three-match T20I series owing to a back injury. The Senior Selection Committee has named Tilak Varma as Shivam’s replacement. Tilak will link up with the squad in Gwalior on Sunday morning."

India’s updated squad for the T20I series vs Bangladesh: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wk), Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Riyan Parag, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakaravarthy, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Mayank Yadav, Tilak Varma

Gwalior will host the opening contest of the India vs Bangladesh 2024 T20I series on October 6

The three-match T20I series between India and Bangladesh will commence on Sunday (October 6) at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior. The teams will then travel north to Delhi for the second T20I, which is scheduled for October 9 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Hyderabad will host the series finale on October 12 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Speaking to reporters on the eve of the first T20I, India captain Suryakumar Yadav expressed excitement about pacer Mayank Yadav, who turned heads with high speeds during IPL 2024. Surya said:

"He has that extra pace and X factor. All players have it, not just him. I have not played him in the nets because our net plans were a bit up and down. Someone else played him, but I have seen and know the kind of potential he has and I am also aware of the kind of difference that he can make. So, let's see. I am hoping he will do well."
