"Tell me God, what more do I have to see" - Prithvi Shaw reacts to Mumbai squad for Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25

A dejected Prithvi Shaw took to social media after being overlooked by the Mumbai selectors for the first three matches of the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. The 25-year-old shared his List A statistics to suggest that he didn't deserve to be dropped.

Shaw posted an Instagram story to point out that he has scored 3,399 runs from 65 innings at an average of 55.7. He emphasized that despite the setback, he has faith in God and would definitely make a strong comeback.

The swashbuckling batter wrote:

"Tell me God, what more do I have to see..if 65 innings, 3399 runs at an average of 55.7 with a strike rate of 126, I'm not good enough..but I will keep my faith in you and hopefully people believe in me still.. cause I will come back for sure..OM SAI RAM.."

It is worth mentioning that Prithvi Shaw was also dropped from Mumbai's Ranji Trophy 2024-25 squad following their first two matches of the season. The youngster was reportedly asked to lose a few extra kilos and improve his fitness.

Shaw had a chance to redeem himself after being picked in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25. While Mumbai won the tournament, it was an underwhelming campaign for the right-handed batter as he finished with 197 runs across nine innings at an average of 21.88.

"He needs to improve his work ethics" - Shreyas Iyer on Prithvi Shaw's downfall

The last few months have been tough for Prithvi Shaw. From going unsold at the IPL 2025 auction to losing his place in the Mumbai team, he desperately needs a miraculous turnaround.

Commenting on Shaw's downfall, Mumbai captain Shreyas Iyer recently stated that the opener is very talented but needs to improve his work ethic. He revealed that he and many others have urged Shaw to do the same.

Iyer was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz:

"I think, personally, he [Prithvi Shaw] is a God-gifted player. The amount of talent he possesses as an individual, no one has it. That's true. It's just that he needs to improve his work ethics. And I have said it before as well in many of the interviews. He needs to get his work ethics right. And if he does that, you know, sky is the limit for him. Can you force him to? I can't force him. He has played so much of cricket. And everyone has given him inputs.
"At the end of the day, it's his job to go out there and figure out things for himself. We can't babysit anyone, right? Every professional who is playing at this level, they need to know what they should be doing. And he has also done it in the past. It's not that he hasn't. He has to focus. He has to sit back, put a thinking cap on and then figure out himself. He will get the answer. No one can force him to do anything."

Mumbai's squad for the first three rounds of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25: Shreyas Iyer (c), Ayush Mhatre, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Jay Bista, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Suryansh Shedge, Siddhesh Lad, Hardik Tamore, Prasad Pawar, Atharva Ankolekar, Tanush Kotian, Shardul Thakur, Royston Dias, Juned Khan, Harsh Tanna and Vinayak Bhoir.
