"Thank you for showing us how it’s done!" - Suryakumar Yadav pays tribute to Rohit Sharma after T20 World Cup triumph
Star Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav has hailed skipper Rohit Sharma after the Men in Blue ended their trophy drought and clinched the T20 World Cup 2024. India won the final by just seven runs against South Africa in Barbados on Saturday, June 29.
Suryakumar took to X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate Rohit on a wonderful T20I career. He also lauded the veteran opener for his captaincy and for leading by example.
Here's what Suryakumar Yadav wrote along with a picture of Rohit Sharma celebrating after the win:
"Captain Ro 🫡Thank you for showing us how it’s done! 🏆🇮🇳 The Absolute Best 🐐"
In the press conference after winning the T20 World Cup, Rohit announced that he had played his last T20 game for India. However, he confirmed that he would continue playing ODIs and Tests.
Suryakumar Yadav's immediate thoughts on winning the T20 World Cup
Suryakumar Yadav accepted that it would take a bit of time for the T20 World Cup win to sink in for him. He was thrilled with the way the Men in Blue snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as at one point South Africa needed just 27 runs from 28 balls with six wickets in hand.
SKY also shed light on the change in the approach of the Indian team after the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal defeat to England. Here's what he said in a video posted by the ICC on Instagram:
"Obviously very happy. But it will maybe take a day or two to sink in. To win from the position we were in was incredible. But I think very happy. Every moment I have been in that dressing room I have enjoyed a lot. Look (gestures at the rain falling) even God is watching what we have been going through in the last two years."
Suryakumar Yadav's sensational catch to dismiss David Miller in the final over is a moment that will go down in Indian cricket folklore.
