"Thanks for the last 4 years" - Glenn Maxwell reacts to RCB’s farewell video after IPL 2025 auction
Australia batter Glenn Maxwell expressed gratitude towards his former side Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The franchise posted a farewell video for the all-rounder, and Maxwell duly replied, thanking them for the last four years.
Glenn Maxwell was acquired by the Bengaluru-based franchise in 2021 for ₹14.25 crore. Maxwell was coming off the back of a disappointing season for the Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) where he failed to hit a six and scored only 108 runs across 13 matches in the previous season.
Maxwell stayed with RCB for four seasons, scoring 1226 runs in 52 matches with a top-score of 78 runs. He was retained by the franchise in 2022 for ₹11 crore but was then released ahead of the 2025 IPL Mega Auction.
Maxwell returned to Punjab Kings for the third time in his IPL career and was acquired for ₹4.20 crore. RCB took to their official account on X to post a video of the player's top moments with the franchise along with the caption:
"Maxi, thank you for being the heart of our team, from your game-changing heroics to your team-first attitude. 🌟 Your constant smile has been a gift, and every moment you wore the RCB colors is unforgettable. ❤ Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors, Maximus. You’ll always be a beautiful part of our story! 🫶"
Maxwell replied:
"Thanks for the last 4 years @RCBTweets ❤️"

Punjab Kings acquired Glenn Maxwell in the 2025 IPL Mega Auction
After being released by RCB, Maxwell entered the auction and garnered interest from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). SRH and PBKS were involved in the bidding war before the former pulled out. CSK jumped in the bidding but didn't go past PBKS' bid of ₹4.20 crore.
Punjab Kings ended up acquiring the player after RCB opted against using their Right to Match card. Maxwell returns to the Punjab-based outfit for the third time, after previous stints from 2014 to 2017 and 2020.
