"That is dumb. Dumb cricket!" - Ex-Aussie player tears into Mohammed Siraj on commentary on Day 2 of BGT 2024-25 3rd Test
Former Australian batter Simon Katich has slammed Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj for his poor execution of a plan on Day 2 (December 15) of the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Brisbane. Katich's remarks came during his commentary for Channel 7 in the post-lunch session.
The moment transpired in the 60th over when Siraj banged a delivery short and on the middle stump line, which Head arched back and ramped to the third-man region for a boundary. Incidentally, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma had a fielder at the exact spot (third-man) the previous over before removing it.
Katich blasted Siraj for bowling for that field without a fielder during on-air commentary, saying:
"That is unbelievable from Mohammed Siraj, because the over before they had a man right in that spot (third-man) and he has run in and bowled what they were planning without the fielder there. That is dumb. Dumb cricket!"
He added:
"They got two men out in the leg side, they got a deep point and they had a man right in that spot for this very plan to Travis Head and then he doesn't have the fielder (now) and now he's going to put the fielder back down there right now."
Siraj has dominated the headlines over the past week after his fiery send-off to Head in the second Test at Adelaide.
While the Indian pacer cleaned him up, the Aussie batter already did all the damage by scoring 140 off 141 deliveries to set up Australia's 10-wicket win.
Travis Head wins battle over Mohammad Siraj to dominate India
Travis Head demolished the Indian bowlers for the umpteenth time over the past two years on Day 2 of the ongoing third Test at Brisbane.
The 30-year-old came into bat with Australia in trouble at 75/3 in the 34th over and continued his imperious form. Head reached his ninth Test century off just 115 deliveries, with 13 boundaries.
It was a third consecutive 50+ score in this series and a second straight century after his Adelaide heroics.
Head is now batting on 103* and has added an unbeaten 159-run partnership with Steve Smith (65*). The duo have propelled Australia to a dominant 234/3 in 70 overs at Tea on Day 2.
