“That’s because of MS Dhoni sir” - CSK pacer Kamlesh Nagarkoti outlines his goal for IPL 2025

24-year-old pacer Kamlesh Nagarkoti is all set to return to action after being picked by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction.

The young and talented pacer has consistently struggled with injuries over the years. He last played the IPL in 2022, representing Delhi Capitals, but played just one game before being ruled out due to a back injury.

Even at the IPL 2025 mega auction, franchises did not show interest in Kamlesh Nagarkoti, possibly because of injury concerns. Fortunately for the pacer, CSK eventually acquired him for INR 30 lakh as he returned to the league after a long gap.

"I have been waiting for this for a long time. I am grateful that I have got an opportunity once again. I am back again where I always wanted to be. I am eager to join CSK, and that's because of Mahendra Singh Dhoni sir. It is every cricketer's dream to play alongside or under such a legend of the game," Nagarkoti was quoted as saying by Times of India.

Nagarkoti said he worked hard to return to full fitness and stay away from injuries. He also addressed how being away from on-field action affected him.

"I never imagined that I would ever be able to play with him. I have worked a lot on my fitness, and I am injury-free now. The injuries troubled me for years and kept me out of action. Sometimes, you get frustrated, annoyed, and upset, but I kept telling myself that I would make a comeback," he added.

Further, the pacer also revealed his goal for the upcoming IPL season.

"I am in a happy space now. CSK are five-time champions. My next aim is to become a part of the title-winning CSK side this time and help them win their record sixth title. I am really excited to meet Dhoni sir. I am looking forward to a successful and triumphant season with CSK this time," he stated.

Kamlesh Nagarkoti will be eager to start a new chapter with CSK

Fresh off a successful 2018 Under-19 World Cup, Kamlesh Nagarkoti was picked by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for INR 3.2 crore in 2018. Unfortunately, he missed the whole season due to a foot injury. KKR retained him the following year but he again missed the whole season due to a back injury.

He eventually made his IPL debut in 2020 but played only ten matches, grabbing five wickets. KKR released him ahead of the 2022 season, following which the Delhi Capitals picked him. He played just one match that season and was injured once again.

After a long wait and a constant battle with injuries, the pacer is now fit and raring to go. Playing for a franchise like CSK, and under the guidance of MS Dhoni, can do him a world of good as it gives him the perfect opportunity to start fresh and prove his worth.

"The old Kamlesh Nagarkoti is back. I am still the same. As I mentioned, I have worked a lot on myself, both physically and mentally. I am 24, and I know I have a long way to go. My ultimate dream is to play for the Indian senior team, and I will try my best to get there. I will not stop chasing that dream," he said.
