“That time, Yuvraj Singh had that number” - Jasprit Bumrah reveals the reason behind his jersey number before BGT 2024-25 2nd Test
Team India's ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah recently shared the reason behind picking 93 as his jersey number in international cricket. The 31-year-old disclosed that he initially wanted to have the number 12 behind his back.
Speaking to Fox Sports on Thursday, December 5, ahead of the Adelaide Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, Bumrah joked he let Yuvraj Singh take the number 12 due to seniority. Adding that he decided to use 93 as his jersey number as his birth year is 1993, he said:
"93 was the year I was born, so it's just that. When I came into the side, I wanted the number 12. But at that time, Yuvraj Singh had that number. So, for his seniority, I gave him that number and I chose this."
Jasprit Bumrah had jersey number 12 during his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2013. He had a memorable first outing, claiming the wickets of Virat Kohli, Mayank Agarwal, and Karun Nair.
