"The best captain is MS Dhoni"- Pakistan spinner Sajid Khan calls former Indian skipper his cricketing inspiration

Pakistan off-spinner Sajid Khan hailed former Indian skipper MS Dhoni as an inspiration among cricketers worldwide. In a recent interview, Sajid was asked about his captaincy experience and in turn the captain who inspires him the most, to which he responded with Dhoni's name.

Dhoni led India in 332 games across formats - the most by any captain in cricket history. The Men in Blue flourished under his captaincy, winning three ICC events - the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy.

The 43-year-old also helped India become the No.1 ranked Test side in the world during the late 2000s.

When asked about his captaincy inspiration, Sajid said in the interview:

"The best captain is MS Dhoni. He is a very cool, calm and successful captain."

Apart from being India's most successful captain, Dhoni is also the most successful leader in the IPL. The wicketkeeper-batter has led the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to five IPL titles - 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023.

Dhoni was recently retained by the franchise as part of the Uncapped Player list for ₹4 crores and will be back in action in IPL 2025.

Sajid Khan is coming off a memorable bowling performance against England in the recent home Test series.

After missing the opening Test which Pakistan lost by an innings, the 31-year-old returned for the subsequent two matches. Sajid immediately made an impact with seven wickets in the first innings of the second Test and eventually finished with nine wickets in the match to help Pakistan level the series 1-1.

The win was Pakistan's first in a home Test since early 2021 against South Africa and also broke an overall six-Test losing streak.

However, the off-spinner wasn't done yet as he tormented England with 10 wickets in the series decider to help Pakistan pull off a nine-wicket win and a 2-1 series victory.

With 19 wickets at an average of 21.10 in two Tests, Sajid was named the Player of the Series as Pakistan won their first home Test series since 2021.
