"The DRS lasted longer than him" - Fans react to Padikkal's golden duck on return during MI vs LSG IPL 2024 clash

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batter Devdutt Padikkal was dismissed for a golden duck in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday, May 17. The left-handed opener was trapped LBW by Nuwan Thusara following an inswinging yorker in the first over.

Padikkal came into the playing XI after a prolonged absence in place of Quinton de Kock. He has struggled in LSG colors since his switch from the Rajasthan Royals (RR) during the off season. His first five appearances for the franchises resulted in single-digit scores, and his last match came against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), where he scored just 13 runs off 19 deliveries in a mammoth run chase.

With LSG all but out of the race for the playoffs, Padikkal was given another chance to showcase his ability. However, he was met with a brilliant delivery upfront. After being trapped in front, he went over to skipper KL Rahul to plead his case for a review.

However, with no DRS and three reds being shown on the crease, Padikkal's season ended with a duck, much like how it began.

Fans were critical of the batter's horrid season on social media. Have a look at some of the reactions right here:

"The DRS lasted longer than him," one fan tweeted.
"Waste of a season for Padikkal," one tweet read.
"RCB Fans once hyped Padikkal," another tweet read.

Devdutt Padikkal ends his horrid season with 38 runs in seven matches

Devdutt Padikkal had come into the IPL 2024 on the back of a resurgent season in the domestic circuit, which even led to a Test cap. His move to LSG was expected to revive his IPL career after a rather forgettable stint with RR. Batting at No.3 for his new team, Padikkal just failed to find any sort of groove or rhythm irrespective of the conditions or the match situation.

As mentioned earlier, he managed to record double figures this season only once. Apart from that, he only finished with a strike rate of over 100 on one occasion as he finished with a dismal figure of 73.08.

Padikkal's dismissal meant yet another poor start for LSG in IPL 2024. The side managed to post 49 runs in the powerplay phase, losing Stoinis' wicket off the last ball of the sixth over.
